Greetings, Parents! It's been great meeting with you all and setting goals for our students. In this age of emails and text messages, it's great to meet face-to-face. Here are a few things to make note of this week. Hawk Hollow Field Trip Tomorrow, October 22nd, is the walking field trip to Hawk Hollow. We forgot to sent the Bremen field trip forms out instead of this one. Please sign the permission slip for Hawk Hollow and return it tomorrow. Spirit Week This week is Spirit Week here at F.Ave in honor of the Decatur High School Homecoming! Click here to how students can participate in the different days that we have this week! Word Study We have started our Word Study (aka "Spelling) in Reading. Students received a set of words last week. We will work with the same group of words for 2 weeks and test at the end of those 2 weeks. More information to come on Word Study vs Spelling. There are some differences that will be covered in a separate post. Read-a-Thon Read-A-Thon is coming up October 19th-October 24th! This is one of the PTO’s biggest fund-raisers and a great opportunity to motivate your students to read. Read-a-Thon is new to F. AVE so here is how we will handle it in Mr. J's Reading Class:
Let me know if you have any questions! Cheers

I hope you all had a wonderful break! I'm super excited to start Term 2---we have so many things to cover. I am also looking forward to conferencing with you all this month. Read below for some important class info:
Conferences This first conference will be an overview of where you student is and how we plan to help them grow. I'll be going over the initial diagnostic test results and some classwork that we've completed. Tybee Chaperones-Dads We have enough moms that are interested in going to Tybee to chaperone. We are in need of some brave dads to toss their hat in the ring. I do realize that it is rather early to try schedule this. If you think you'd be available just send me an email. Picture Day! We will be taking pictures Thursday, October 10 at 10:30 am. Fall Break Photos I told the students that if they had photos from Fall Break, that they may create a slideshow and I will give them some time to share it in class. This is not a formal assignment. This is a just a way for students to share their experience and to gain some public speaking experience in preparation for 5ht Grade Exhibition at the end of the school year.
