Greetings parents! It was great getting back to teaching and learning with our students. Here are a few bits of info to keep in mind as we move into fall break:
Conference Sign Up Click here to sign up for conferences. This conference will be with Ms. Cassan and myself. We have some time slots open for Saturday, September 30th for your convenience. Please be careful not to delete a fellow parent's choice. Enter your student's name into your chosen time slot. Field Trip The field trip to the Atlanta History Museum is scheduled for October 20th. If you are available to chaperone that day let me know via email. We will need two or three for that day. First come first serve! Term 2 We are excited to be moving into Term 2 content! Students will be learning about the Civil War, Bacteria, Informational Writing, and much more! I will be writing a separate blog post over the break that will give greater detail about our Term 2 adventure. I hope you had a great Labor Day! We are at the end of Term 1 and preparing for Term 2. Here is what's happening in class:
Science On Thursday the students will have a science assessment. Students will be expected to be able to classify plants an animals using features such as vertebrate and invertebrate, seed producing and spore producing. They will need to know several characteristics of each class of vertebrates; reptile, amphibian, bird, mammal and fish. They have notes in their science notebooks which should be used to study. A science study guide will come home on Wednesday as well. Math We are wrapping up our Term 1 unit on Place Value and Decimals. This week, we will discuss multiplication and division of decimals. Homework and formative assessments will be going home this week. Students will take the math summative assessment on Tuesday, September 12th. Students should be able to talk robustly about how and why numbers change place value in math. Social Studies We have started a unit on the Civil War. This week we will explore the causes of the Civil War. We will be looking at various sources and taking notes in our exploration. Students should be able to tell you the unique conditions of the United States that caused the Civil War. ELA In Reading, we will be discussing how to identify the theme in a story/passage. In Writing, we are finishing our personal narratives. In Grammar, we will be studying nouns. Students should be able to tell you the important elements of a narrative, how to identify the theme of a story and how the various types of nouns are used in sentences.
